Travel travails

I made a short trip to Italy this week, to Milan, for business. On Thursday morning at 5:20am, I was awakened by an automated call from American Airlines, informing me that my flight home had been canceled, and letting me know I had been rebooked on an alternate route the same day, on Iberia through Madrid...unfortunately, a delay of 7 hours. Upon arriving at the airport, I found that there were at least two other carriers with availability on direct flights, leaving at about the same time, and I was able to rebook on one of them...but the experience made me wonder what AA was thinking? mac
